Chateau Montrose 2014

Chateau Montrose is located in St.Estephe and was classified as a second growth in 1855 and is one of the best at this level. Some vintages, such as 2009 and 1989, even have a first growth level. As usual on the left bank, Montrose has also planted grape varieties as a majority Cabernet Sauvignon but also Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The chateau makes a total of three wines.

This is about the 2014 vintage of the Grand Vin.

A very typical St.Estephe nose that shows a lot of spice but also the typical salinity of the chateau paired with blackcurrant, blueberry, black cherry, some wood and notes of black tea. Quite developed on the palate, showing plenty of power and depth without losing its balance. The tannins are still young but well integrated and very accessible with a little aeration, but I would say that it is not yet at its peak. Give it another 3-5 years and it will show its full potential and certainly stay at this level for a good while.

Basically, the wines go very well with various cheeses and rich meat dishes.

As far as prices are concerned, it is worth buying any vintage that comes out fresh and is still traded at entry-level prices. Even if prices are only moving slightly, it is worth having a wine in your cellar that is good to drink, regardless of the vintage.
