Chateau Margaux 2015

2015 was a historic year, 200 years of construction of the estate's buildings in 1815, but also a tribute to Paul Pontallier, black bottle the last vintage made by the legendary winemaker.

Excellent vintage in Bordeaux, in which Chateau Margaux uses the following proportions:

87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot

The weather conditions in 2015 were in fact typical of the great vintages of 2005, 2009 and 2010.

The most exciting Bordeaux of all the 2015s I have tasted, despite the warm vintage and the enormously high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, Margaux still manages to bring an almost Burgundian elegance to the glass, accompanied by ripe red and black berries but also dominated by nuances of subtle wood, dry herbs and fresh leather but also smoke and light balsamic notes.

Extremely silky on the palate with fresh and fine tannins, yet light-footed and velvety. A wine made for decades with an infinitely long finish. Can of course be enjoyed at any age and with sufficient aeration, but I'm pretty sure that 2015 Margaux will only really be great  from 2050 onwards.

But of course it makes sense to collect the wine because of the rare black bottle that was produced once, which will certainly be very sought after like the 2000 Mouton Rothschild.
