Domaine Bonneau du Martray is a highly respected wine producer focussing on the production of 2 wines, Corton and Corton Charlemagne both Grand Cru.
For some time now, the Domaine has leased a small part of the Corton-Charlemagne parcel to the world-famous Domaine de la Romanee Conti.
Blindly I would never classify it as Corton Charlemagne, but rather Batard Montrachet with its elegance and expensive perfume of yellow fruits, apricot but also melon and pineapple. A light touch of vanilla, clean and pure, immensely overloaded with intensity and minerality, no unnecessary wood but a pure focus on the art of making that really sets high standards here. Everything simply fits together perfectly, now I understand why many people try the new Corton Charlemagne from DRC against Bonneau du Martray to compare. The winemaker is now convincing how to create such elegant wines from the Corton hill that no one has ever managed before.
I can remember buying the wines a few years ago for a fraction of the price they are now going for. Anyone who still has some in the cellar can consider themselves lucky to be able to try more mature versions. At the moment, very mature vintages are particularly popular and in demand. Nevertheless, the prices are still low compared to how much wine you can get for the money, there are others that demand much more and are not nearly as interesting.
