Joseph Drouhin is one of the most important
wine producers in Burgundy and produces a
range of village and regional wines. The grapes
for these come from winegrowers in the region as
well as from the estate's own vineyards.
Domaine Joseph Drouhin produces several
Grand Cru wines in the Côte d'Or and in Chablis,
including wines from Musigny,
Corton-Charlemagne and the Marquis de
Laguiche Montrachet Grand Cru, one of the
largest shares of the entire Montrachet hill.
The flagship of the winery, one of the best-known
wines that has improved greatly in recent years.
Young tannins, muscular wine with flavours of
young cherry, dry herbs and some wood. On the
palate it has good substance and depth with lots
of red fruit. The prices have risen immensely in
recent years, and a few years ago it was
available for a fraction of the price. It's not a bad
wine by any means, but in my opinion there are
other more interesting wines from the Cote de
Nuits for the same price from the same producer.
It's a pleasure to drink now, but I would leave it to
mature.
It goes wonderfully with mushroom dishes and
blue cheese, but would also go wonderfully with
a juicy steak.
